THE STORY

A captivating photographic art piece born from a profound moment in the Bay of Biscay. As I gazed over the side of the ship during our return voyage to the UK, following an extended period away from our grown-up family, the world's tumultuous events of 2020 and 2021 mirrored the challenges we faced.

Docked in Santander, northern Spain, I discovered this shimmering, silvery creature in deep water, mirroring my own feelings of being submerged in an emotional sea. Our prolonged separation had been forced upon us, making the journey back to reunite a poignant and difficult one.

Choosing to craft a strong edit for this photograph was a deliberate decision. The emotions tied to capturing this image were intense; resilience was our anchor. Much like the waves and ripples in the water, our family experienced disruptions, and I aimed to accentuate these dynamics in this piece. The resulting work mirrors the contrasts of light and darkness, symbolising our journey through challenging times.

Printed directly onto textured aluminium, the combination of waves and ripples produces an even more extraordinary effect— a play of texture and sublime light reflection. The artwork, like life itself, captures different nuances in various lights throughout the day. I find immense beauty in this piece—the vibrant colours, the intricacy of the ripples, the silkiness, and the prominent green hue.

Green, the dominant colour in this composition, serves as a symbol of new beginnings and growth. It signifies renewal and abundance, carrying the calming attributes of blue while infusing a sense of energy. IN DEEP WATER is more than just a photograph; it's a visual narrative of strength, resilience, and the beauty that emerges from navigating the depths of life's challenges.
